Cocktail Hour: Improved Whiskey Cocktail

It's been a bit since we've posted a cocktail recipe, but we are loving this whiskey cocktail! It's a little bit Sazerac and a little bit Old Fashioned. 

2 oz rye or whiskey
1/4 oz maraschino liqueur
1/4 oz simple syrup
1 t absinthe
2 dashes peychaud's bitters
2 dashes angostura bitters
lemon peel for garnish

Combine all ingredients except lemon peel in mixing glass. Fill half way with ice and stir vigorously for a few seconds. Strain into an old-fashioned glass over a large ice cube. Squeeze lemon peel over glass, wipe rim with peel, and add to the glass.
